Electricity market in Sweden
Sweden has been divided into four bidding zones since 2011. The grid is run by Svenska kraftnät.
The north (SE1, SE2) produces far more hydro and wind power than it uses, while most consumption and the nuclear plants are in the south. When the north–south lines are full, SE3 and especially SE4 become much more expensive and move closer to German and Danish prices.
SE3 covers central Sweden including Stockholm and Gothenburg, where most people live.
How to use these prices
If you have a dynamic electricity contract, the hourly price changes your bill directly: running the dishwasher, washing machine or EV charger in the cheapest hours instead of the evening peak can halve the cost of that energy. The cheapest consecutive hours are highlighted above for both today and tomorrow.
Frequently asked questions
When is electricity cheapest in Sweden (SE3)?
Usually at night and, on sunny days, around midday when solar output peaks. The most expensive hours are typically the morning and evening peaks. The cheapest 2- and 4-hour windows for today and tomorrow are shown above.
When are tomorrow's electricity prices for Sweden (SE3) published?
The European day-ahead auction closes at noon CET and results are published at around 12:45 CET. This page updates within about 15 minutes after that.
Is this the price I pay for electricity in Sweden (SE3)?
No. This is the wholesale price without VAT, taxes, network charges or the supplier's margin. It matters directly if you have a dynamic or spot-price contract; fixed-price contracts follow it only over months.
Why is the price in Sweden (SE3) different from neighbouring countries?
All European zones are coupled in one market. Prices are equal when cross-border lines have spare capacity and differ when lines are congested — then each zone's own supply and demand set its price.
