Electricity market in Norway
Norway's grid is run by Statnett and the country is split into five bidding zones. Almost all electricity comes from hydropower, so prices depend on reservoir levels, snowmelt and rainfall.
The southern zones (NO1, NO2, NO5) are linked to Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK through subsea cables, so their prices follow the continent much more closely than the northern zones NO3 and NO4.
NO3 covers central Norway around Trondheim.
How to use these prices
If you have a dynamic electricity contract, the hourly price changes your bill directly: running the dishwasher, washing machine or EV charger in the cheapest hours instead of the evening peak can halve the cost of that energy. The cheapest consecutive hours are highlighted above for both today and tomorrow.
Frequently asked questions
When is electricity cheapest in Norway (NO3)?
Usually at night and, on sunny days, around midday when solar output peaks. The most expensive hours are typically the morning and evening peaks. The cheapest 2- and 4-hour windows for today and tomorrow are shown above.
When are tomorrow's electricity prices for Norway (NO3) published?
The European day-ahead auction closes at noon CET and results are published at around 12:45 CET. This page updates within about 15 minutes after that.
Is this the price I pay for electricity in Norway (NO3)?
No. This is the wholesale price without VAT, taxes, network charges or the supplier's margin. It matters directly if you have a dynamic or spot-price contract; fixed-price contracts follow it only over months.
Why is the price in Norway (NO3) different from neighbouring countries?
All European zones are coupled in one market. Prices are equal when cross-border lines have spare capacity and differ when lines are congested — then each zone's own supply and demand set its price.
